Spilled a glass of rouge on your new top? Knocked a bottle of Malbec you were gifted at Christmas onto your white carpet? Don't worry, all of your dreaded vino dilemmas can be solved with a simple trick. You might be tempted to reach straight for the chemical-riddled stain removers to banish those unsightly red marks on your favourite table runner. But most of the time, the product never does what it says on the bottle, and ends up bleaching your garments and making them look worse.

Luckily, Nancy Birthwhistle has shared her foolproof hack, and it turns out a little H20 is all you need. The author and former winner of the Great British Baking Off, has taken her talents to cleaning, and wowed viewers earlier this month after appearing on ITV's This Morning.

Standing alongside Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley, Nancy demonstrated how to tackle a 'fresh wine stain' (that is, a stain that has only just emerged and not been left overnight to settle). She simply stretches a white t-shirt over a colander (in the sink) and pegs it in place so the stain is in the centre.

Then, she pours boiling water from the kettle directly onto the stain and lets the liquid work its magic. "Basically what you do is pour that on and you see that you will dissolve away [the stain]," the star added, to which Cat replied: "It just disappears... There's nothing else in that water?".

Nancy explained that the hack doesn't just work on wine stains, and will get rid of fruit juice, jam, and mincemeat stains without any scrubbing on a whole host of materials - including kids bibs, rugs, and linen. "But, you have to do it when the stain is fresh," she reiterated.
