Police have issued a major update after a toddler was killed and two people were left fighting for their lives in a crash. West Midlands Police released further information after the crash, which took place on Dartmouth Road in Smethwick on Saturday night. Sharjeel Shahzad appeared at Birmingham Magistrates Court today following the two-car collision. He is charged with causing death by dangerous driving, two charges of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving with no insurance and failing to stop after a collision.

On Sunday, the force confirmed that a two-year-old boy had died in hospital after a stolen Porsche crashed into another car shortly before 11pm. The two-year-old has been named for the first time as Shehbaz Singh. Shahzad has been remanded in custody to further appear at Birmingham Crown Court on Wednesday, January 15. A woman, 29, and man, 30, remain in a serious condition in hospital while a 30-year-old woman and second 30-year-old man have been discharged from hospital. Police say they are "continuing to offer support to all those involved".

West Midlands Police earlier launched a manhunt for the driver of a grey Porsche Cayenne. Officers urged anyone who has dashcam footage to contact them about the incident. A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: "We have spoken to witnesses and CCTV enquiries in and around the area are underway. The road was closed in both directions while specialist reconstruction staff examined the scene, but has now reopened.".
