Manchester City take on Chelsea this evening in what could prove to be a pivotal clash in the race for the Premier League top four. Chelsea ended their five-match winless league run on Monday with a 3-1 home win against Wolves to move back into the Champions League qualification places.

Ahead of the trip to the Etihad, the Blues led the Citizens by two points in the table with Enzo Maresca looking to get one over his mentor Pep Guardiola. Cole Palmer has been passed fit to face his former club, as has Enzo Fernandez and Levi Colwill, but there will be no homecoming for Romeo Lavia who is sidelined with yet another injury issue.

Three new signings this week – Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis and Abdukodir Khusanov – could make their City debuts, but Guardiola has lost key defender Ruben Dias who limped off during the embarrassing 4-2 loss at Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday night.

Follow all the action from the Etihad with Metro’s LIVE matchday blog:. A mad, mad goal. A long ball from Ederson finds Haaland who expertly rolls Chalobah to cut inside. There is still plenty of work to do, but for some inexplicable reason, Sanchez has come charging out of goal and is caught in no-man’s land on the edge of his own box!.

Easy for Haaland, who curls home into an empty net. Good grief. Robert Sanchez, what happened there?!. Jackson did very well for Chelsea’s opener but he has been pretty ineffective since. Maresca makes the change and brings on Christopher Nkunku to replace him.
