A woman was left riddled with gunshot wounds after trying to protect her baby son from her gun-wielding boyfriend. After getting into a row over loud music, Maruavious Hampton, 25, shot the infant "multiple times" before fleeing the scene and taking his own life with the weapon. He is said to have pulled the gun on the mother and her child during a physical altercation on Sunday at Chelsea Place Apartments in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

The gunman - who was not biologically related to the baby - took out his weapon and shot at the child, who was sitting in his stroller at the time, according to NewsChannel5. The mother was shot in the hand as she tried to jump in front of the shooter to shield her baby, who was named as Jeriko Logue. Jeriko tragically died at the scene as a result of the multiple gunshot wounds, while his mother was rushed to hospital and treated for the injuries to her hand.

The suspect made his get away in a white Dodge Charger, with police issuing an alert for fellow officers to be on the lookout, according to the Daily News Journal. Williamson County Sheriff's Department deputies were notified by a camera as Hampton entered their jurisdiction and pursued him. He stopped the car and tried to escape on foot, running into a nearby field, where he was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital, but couldn't be saved. There has been an outpouring of grief from the little boy's family in the aftermath of his tragic and senseless murder.

Grandmother Lucretia Logue told NewsChannel5: "They took everything, I mean, everything from me. I don’t even have any other words. They took my whole world. I’m just lost. I don’t know what to do anymore.". "How could somebody be so heartless to hurt a baby? He didn’t even have time to talk. He just learned how to walk," Jeriko’s cousin, Enashie Wise added. To help loved ones cover funeral and medical expenses, Jeriko's family have set up a GoFundMe page. The page reads: "Baby Jeriko was a light in all our lives—a sweet, playful, and innocent soul taken far too soon.

"He brought endless love and joy to everyone around him. Just last month, he took his first steps and spoke his first words, “mama” and “papa.” His contagious smile, dimples, and adorable curls lit up every room.". If you're struggling and need to talk, the Samaritans operate a free helpline open 24/7 on 116 123. Alternatively, you can email jo@samaritans.org or visit their site to find your local branch.
