Junior Manchester United star Amad Diallo has apologised to fans in a heartbroken social media post after a 'very difficult year' for the club. Many supporters would argue that Diallo, 22, has been one of the few bright sparks in a torrid season, scoring five goals and providing seven assists. Indeed, he received an outpouring of supportive comments beneath his post.

He has been a regular starter under Ruben Amorim and already carved a place for himself in the club's folklore after scoring a sublime 90th-minute winner against Manchester City. However, the youngster has taken it upon himself to apologise for a year which has seen United tumble to 14th in the Premier League - after finishing a record-low eighth last season.

He accompanied the post with a black and white picture of him holding his head in his hands. 'A very difficult year, apologising is not enough,' he began on X. . 'But you have supported us and continued to do so throughout all this time... thank you.'. United signed Diallo as an 18-year-old for £37million from Atalanta in 2021 and it took a while for him to truly make his mark with the Red Devils. After making his debut in February 2021, he was loaned out to Rangers and Sunderland and only really had a crack of the whip last season, when he started to emerge as an impact player.
