Bruno Fernandes received a host of plaudits after a stellar showing in Manchester United's draw with Liverpool. The Red Devils were tipped to see their losing streak continue at Anfield, but instead produced a spirited display in a 2-2 draw that could easily have gone the way of the Red Devils. Fernandes was among those to stand up and be counted for the visitors.

It was one of the captain's best displays this term with the stats backing that up. Across the 90 minutes at Anfield, the Portuguese playmaker created more chances that any other player, provided the assist for Lisandro Martinez's opener and also won the ball back more than any individual.

His quality was recognised by team-mates past and present, who responded to an Instagram post he put up with Luke Shaw, who is currently out injured, among those to praise Fernandes. He wrote: "You are so good," in the comments. Former United winger Anthony Elanga, who now plays for Nottingham Forest, echoed that as he wrote: “What a performance!”.

Juan Mata, who is now 36 and playing in Australia but previously shared the pitch with Fernandes, simply wrote: “Proud,” along with a red heart emoji in the comments. Fernandes has continued to divide opinion in recent years with some suggesting the captaincy should be taken off him. The Portugal international was a huge hit when he first moved to Manchester, but has struggled for consistency. After the Liverpool stalemate though he issued a demand to his team-mates, urging them to maintain their standards.
