Manchester United are close to agreeing a fee for ‘remarkable’ Arsenal wonderkid Ayden Heaven in the January window, according to reports. It emerged last week that United had made contact with the Gunners to sign the 18-year-old defender and were leading the race for the teenager.

German side Eintracht Frankfurt and La Liga giants Barcelona made approaches for Heaven while Arsenal also offered him a fresh contract. But it seems he will be joining the Red Devils with The Athletic now reporting that ‘United are close to an agreement with Arsenal’ over a deal.

They add that Heaven’s proposed move from Arsenal to United is ‘progressing well’ with his scholarship terms expiring in the summer. The England U19 international was spotted at Old Trafford on Thursday, watching Ruben Amorim’s side defeat Rangers in the Europa League.
Heaven made his first-team debut for Arsenal earlier this season in the 3-0 Carabao Cup win over Preston in October. While he has not yet appeared in the Premier League – Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has made no secret of how highly he rates Heaven – and has included him in a number of his top-flight matchday squads this term.
Arteta praised Heaven after he started and played 45 minutes in Arsenal’s pre-season win over United at the SoFi Stadium in California on July 28. ‘Very impressive,’ Arteta said about Heaven’s performance. ‘I don’t know how many players are able to do that on a stage like this [at his age].
