Manchester United's announcement about Marcus Rashford's move to Aston Villa was flooded by fans calling on part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe to make sure the club adds to its squad on transfer deadline day. Rashford has joined Villa on loan for the remainder of the season, having expressed his desire for a new challenge back in December. The forward is the second senior player to leave on loan in January, after Antony, while a number of youngsters will also finish the campaign away from Old Trafford.
United were already looking relatively light in attack before Rashford's exit, with strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee struggling in front of goal all season. Sunday's 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace left United with just 28 goals from 24 matches, with only four Premier League teams scoring fewer. Patrick Dorgu and Ayden Heaven have arrived in the final week of the window, giving head coach Ruben Amorim more options further back. However, based on the comments under United's post about the Rashford deal, at least one more new face is required.
"And who is his and Antony’s replacement?" asked one supporter in reply. "And no one to replace him INEOS are embarrassing," wrote another. "Sign a striker, for goodness sake!" was the simple response from a third fan. Another said: "Man United, 2 forwards are now gone and we're in dire need of goals and a striker - so get off the pot and get someone in!". United saw their efforts to sign Mathys Tel fall flat on Sunday, amid reports they had failed to reach an agreement with Bayern Munich. Christopher Nkunku and Leon Bailey are among the other attacking players linked, but the higher-ups are running out of time.

The move will see the 27-year-old return to Champions League action for the first time since picking up a red card in United's defeat to FC Copenhagen in November 2023, and he set out his ambitions for the remainder of the campaign.
“It’s a club that’s in a good position in the league, and they’re pushing to get higher," he told club media. "Still in the Champions League, a good, ambitious manager and great talent in the squad. “I’ve had to choose somewhere where I feel my style of football is suited to, and can help them and help me rediscover and improve as a player. Obviously it’s only short-term I’m here, so I want to make the most of my time here, and the only way to do that is by using my attributes and my skillset to help the team.”.
