The transfer window might shut in less than 24 hours, but Manchester United still have time to take care of some important business. Ruben Amorim has been unable to inspire an immediate turnaround since taking over from Erik ten Hag in November, United fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday, leaving them 13th in the league with 12 fewer points than the corresponding stage last season.

"That is with a lot of people in the club," Amorim said when asked about transfers after the defeat to Oliver Glasner's Palace. "I focus on the next game.". United have got a handful of deals over the line already, with Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu arriving in the final week of the window and Diego Leon set to join in the summer. There have also been some high-profile exits, including loan departures for Marcus Rashford and Antony.

One thing's for certain, and that's the need for at least one more arrival if United are to call this window a success. Mirror Football has looked at what the dream might be for Amorim's side. The priority for now has to be a replacement for Rashford. Despite the forward not playing since mid-December, his exit helped free up some wage budget that many will hope goes towards a new attacking threat to support underwhelming duo Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee.

On Sunday night, it looked as though Mathys Tel would not be that man. The latest reports suggest that talks appeared to have broken down between United and Bayern, with a Bundesliga stay beginning to look like the most likely outcome. What do you want Manchester United to do on deadline day? Have your say in the comments section. One man who has been linked, on and off, is Christopher Nkunku. The Chelsea forward seems relatively well-suited to occupying one of those two No.10 spots under Amorim, but negotiating with the Blues might not be the easiest task.

Leon Bailey has also been linked, but one man who few expect to make the move is Matheus Cunha. The Wolves star signed a new contract over the weekend and - despite the optimism of former Man Utd striker Michael Owen - looks destined to stay put. Fans might be satisfied with more of a stopgap signing if it means moving closer to a summer deal for Viktor Gyokeres. The Swedish striker has already shown he can thrive under Amorim, but a deadline day deal looks like a pipe dream.

“I’m not going to sign anyone from Sporting in January - but I don’t know what I’m going to do in the summer,” Amorim said upon moving to Old Trafford. The head coach gave assurances to his former club, but nothing would reassure United's fanbase more than murmurings of a summer agreement, even if things are a little quieter this evening. Of course, a successful deadline day would also require Alejandro Garnacho to stay. The Argentine attracted plenty of interest after indications United were open to offers for the right price, but Amorim's use of the youngster makes it clear how the boss feels.

That's not to say there won't be one more exit before the window slams shut. Dorgu's arrival means Tyrell Malacia is free to leave on loan, but the Dutchman will need to seal a deal quickly after a Benfica switch appeared to collapse over the weekend.
