Manchester United's players sunk to their knees when Harry Maguire missed his golden chance at Liverpool. The Red Devils produced a spirited display at Anfield and left with a point after a pulsating four-goal encounter. United had been all but written off before the trip but came to within a whisker of winning the game and upsetting the Premier League leaders.

The contest became an end-to-end encounter and, in the seventh and final minute of stoppage time, Joshua Zirkzee was put through and chose to square the ball to Maguire. The defender struck it first time with his effort going over the bar. United had five players back on the halfway line and they were left to watch on. After seeing Maguire's shot miss the target several of them dropped to the turf whilst others stood with their head in their hands.

Ruben Amorim, eyeing another statement win, sunk to his knees in the technical area whilst Andre Onana in goal ended up laying flat on his back as the referee blew the whistle to end the clash. Despite missing out on the win, the entire team has earned huge plaudits for the way in which they performed. After four losses on the bounce in all competitions, United had shown little to be optimistic about but produced a spirited display and many pointed to the passion on show throughout.

Captain Bruno Fernandes said: "I'm pretty upset. It frustrates me and finally I did a proper performance. We know how tough it is to play Liverpool, but we put in a real effort and played with some passion and heart. We can't stop here. We have to bring this heart, passion and frustration to the next game.".
