Man Utd to slash funding to its own charity in Jim Ratcliffe's latest controversial cost purge

Manchester United are set to slash the funding it provides to its own charitable foundation in the latest cost-cutting measure driven by Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Ratcliffe has enacted a brutal programme of cost-cutting measures since taking control of the Premier League giants in February. Around 250 staff have been made redundant, the club's Christmas party was cancelled and credit card priviledges have been revoked.
That is despite the Red Devils spending more than £200million in the summer transfer window. They have also had to hand costly pay-outs to Erik ten Hag and Dan Ashworth after their sackings, as well as sending a sizeable sum to Sporting Lisbon to bring in Ruben Amorim as manager.
Now, Ratcliffe is pushing for even deeper cuts to spending by the Old Trafford club. Last week, it was confirmed United had slashed the funding it gives to former players who had hit financial problems. According to Sky News, United have followed that by cutting the funding it provides to its own charitable arm. The club provided close to £1million of funds to the Manchester United Foundation last year.
But it is claimed the club plans to inform the Foundation's trustees that that funding will be curbed from 2025 onwards. It is understood that a 'substantial element' of the support given to the Foundation would be cut. The Foundation is expected to be informed about the scale of the reductions in the coming weeks. It works in local communities around Manchester and Salford to engage with underprivileged and marginalised people.
