Man who bit off part of police officer's ear jailed

A man who bit off part of a police officer's ear has been jailed for more than three years. Warning: This article contains graphic images which some readers may find distressing. Kevin Humphrey Jones, 40, of Llanfairpwll on Anglesey, pinned the police officer down after he began resisting arrest.
Jones previously admitted a charge of wounding and was sentenced at Caernarfon Crown Court on Tuesday. PC James Marsden responded to a report of a domestic assault in Llangefni shortly after midnight on 8 December. He attended along with a colleague from North Wales Police.
The defendant pinned down PC Marsden and bit off a piece of his ear, with the officer later told at hospital that such was the damage to his ear it would be permanently disfigured. Holyhead: Key port linking Wales and Ireland partially re-opens after Storm Darragh damage.

Another officer managed to pull Jones away from PC Marsden and handcuff him. Jones was handed a sentence of three years and four months behind bars.
Detective Constable Leslie Ellis said "no assault on any emergency service worker [was] ever acceptable". She said PC Marsden "suffered an injury that will never heal as he tried to protect someone who needed help". "He had to go home to his loved ones and explain to his pregnant partner what had happened while on duty," she added.
