Marcus Rashford has been told he only has himself to blame for his Manchester United exile and is in danger of throwing his career away. Rashford has not featured in United's last 12 games since being left out of the United squad by Ruben Amorim for United's 2-1 derby win at Manchester City on December 15.
United boss Amorim underlined his hardline stance on Rashford after his side's 1-0 win at Fulham on Sunday, stating he would rather put 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital on the bench than a player who does not pull his weight. Former United striker Louis Saha said Rashford, who risks being unable to move elsewhere because of his £325,000-a-week wages, needs to rediscover his focus and form before it is too late to salvage his career.
And Saha said Rashford will never be adored like United legends Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham and Roy Keane – even though all three left the club in acrimonious circumstances – because of his poor attitude. “At the end of the day, I expect every single Manchester United player to work hard, fight for their place,” Saha told spaceportsweden. “If you don’t dedicate yourself to being the best, then you’re out. Those are the standards.
“Rashford’s got a massive salary. His performances in the last two years have been really bad. Marcus needs to change. Wherever he ends up, he will need to change. “I just hope that he wakes up and realises that he has the ability to be one of the best players in the world - I still think that on ability alone, he’s the best player at Manchester United.
