Actor Mark Wahlberg has revealed how he was required to shave his head every day for his role in the action thriller Flight Risk. The Hollywood star, 53, plays ‘pilot’ Dylan in the airplane-set thriller – leaving audiences shocked by hiding a completely bald head beneath the baseball cap his character initially wears.

This isn’t the only surprise the film has in store, featuring a tense battle of wits between Marky Mark’s Dylan, a shifty fugitive (Topher Grace), and the Air Marshall (Michelle Dockery) tasked with getting him to trial. The plan hits a spot of turbulence when Dylan reveals himself to be a ruthless hitman who has been hired to kill the fugitive before he can testify.

A promising plot twist – but we’re more distracted by what’s going on with the normally hirsute Father Stu and The Departed star’s hair. Many thought it to be a prosthetic bald cap – but Mark has revealed how he in fact shaved his head especially for the role.

Speaking to People, Mark spoke about how his Flight Risk look was achieved. ‘There was no bald cap. I shaved the middle and left the horseshoe around the sides. We just shaved it,’ he said.

‘They would shave the top as close to the scalp as possible every day, obviously, because we didn’t have any stubble or anything. So I just hid it with a hat. ‘But the most priceless thing was seeing my wife’s face when I took my hat off after getting the hair cut for work that day,’ he laughed.

[BGUK_3116862 - Los Angeles, CA - Mark Wahlberg is almost unrecognizable as a balding, psychotic killer in Mel Gibson???s plane thriller Flight Risk. The skies are a lot less friendly to fly with a balding, unhinged Mark Wahlberg in the pilot seat. That???s the takeaway from the new trailer for Flight Risk, a thriller from Mel Gibson, who is directing the in-flight face-off between Wahlberg???s psycho killer and Michelle Dockery???s FBI agent. She???s been tasked with escorting a government witness, played by Topher Grace, to trial. But Wahlberg???s killer has got a contract to shoot the turncoat witness before he can spill all the beans. The trio collide on a small plane that???s charting a course over the Alaskan wilderness. Wahlberg is clearly having the time of his life as the follically challenged hitman, which is a departure from his typical heroic roles. Dockery, best known for her upper-crust turn on Downton Abbey, is also playing against type. Wahlberg and Gibson recently collaborated on Father Stu, a faith-based drama that hit theaters in 2022. Gibson, whose A-list career was derailed by a series of off-screen controversies, hasn???t directed a film since 2016???s Hacksaw Ridge, which earned him an Oscar nomination. He previously won an Academy Award for Braveheart and also helmed Apocalypto and The Passion of the Christ. Wahlberg was last seen in Netflix???s The Union, a spy comedy that co-starred Halle Berry. Dockery appeared in Here alongside Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. And Grace appeared in the well-received horror film, Heretic. Flight Risk will be released in movie theaters on January 24, 2025. *BACKGRID DOES NOT CLAIM ANY COPYRIGHT OR LICENSE IN THE ATTACHED MATERIAL.
