Martin Odegaard has admitted Arsenal have not reached top “gear” - but insists they can still deliver his “biggest dream.”. Incredibly, Arsenal’s longest winning streak in the Premier League this season is just three games and they trail leaders Liverpool by six points, having played a game more. Gunners skipper Odegaard confessed it has been a “strange” season for him personally because he missed two months through injury and his goals have dried up.

But Odegaard is also convinced that Arsenal can have a strong finish and go one better, having missed out on the title to Sunday’s opponents Manchester City in the past two years. Odegaard said: “It’s been strange for me. It’s the first time I’ve properly had an injury, I was out for a while and it’s something I’m not used to so it was frustrating and weird for me. “For the team, we’re in a good position. But still I feel like we have another gear, another step that we can take and hopefully we can hit that top form now until the end of the season. It was the same last year. We really hit top form towards the end of the season. Hopefully we can do that again and finish with a good run.

“I think when you’ve been so close, you get even more hungry, you get even more determination to do it, especially last year when we were there on the last day and really could feel it was that close. I feel the whole squad is ready now to push for it. “There are many games to play for. We remember last season, how we ended that season, and there was so much happening towards the end. There is so much to play for still. We just have to stay calm, focus on ourselves, do our job and then hopefully that is enough.

“I have been dreaming about this since I was a young kid - to win one of the big trophies and especially the Premier League was always something special growing up so this would be the biggest dream. It’s what we work for every day and I think it’s important to stay in the moment and not look too far ahead. Just focus on the day by day and keep going and in the end hopefully we will be rewarded.”.

Odegaard is Arsenal’s captain, midfield leader and has been the driving force of the past three seasons. But even he admits one key ingredient has been missing this season: goals. Will Arsenal win the Premier League title? Give us your prediction in the comments section. The Norway star got 15 two seasons ago, 11 last season and yet has managed just two in all competitions this time. For such an outstanding player, one of the best in his position in the world, he was searingly honest about his own shortcomings.

“It’s been something that I haven’t been good enough with this season,” he said. “I feel like I’ve been in enough situations and created a lot for others but I haven’t been clinical enough with the finishing. So that’s something that I really want to step up towards the end of the season.”. Odegaard says it was “frustrating” to watch the 2-2 draw at City from the sidelines while he was out injured. He admits it has been “surprising” to see City struggle for form but insisted they will come back to make this season a “big fight.” It is clear Odegaard relishes the big occasions but he is also enjoying fatherhood after his wife Helene Spilling gave birth to their first child in December.

Odegaard added: “It’s amazing - the best thing in the world and something that you can’t really describe. I enjoy it and it’s epical every day to come home to that. I’m quite lucky because my wife is doing most of the nights and she has been great. The main difference is when you get home it’s easier to switch off because you get so dragged into that world and then you forget everything else.”.
