Meet Formula E's babyface assassin Taylor Barnard – who relaxes by driving even more

Formula E’s new babyface assassin is so young and innocent that he doesn’t even know who Madonna is. Taylor Barnard made history when he became FE’s youngest-ever podium finisher during the season-opening race in Sao Paulo last month. The Norwich-born 20-year-old went from the back of the field to claim third place in his first full-time drive for the McLaren team. It adds to his record of youngest-ever points scorer, from when he filled in for the injured Sam Bird in Monaco and Berlin last year.
Barnard returns to action in Saturday's Mexico City E-Prix, where he will look to build on his achievements, which have come largely because of his straight-up love for racing. He is so invested in the sport, that his normal tonic after a race is just to simply race some more.
“I’ve done a lot of media stuff with the team lately, and I'm getting a bit of a stick for not knowing movie names and things like that, but I spend all of my time at home in the simulator,” Barnard says. “I feel like my passion and desire for the sport, that's just what I enjoy doing the most, so even when I have time off, my relaxation is just to drive more in the simulator, and that's what I enjoy spending my time doing.”.
After collecting his trophy in Sao Paulo, Barnard opted for a quiet night, rather than one of wild celebration. He was tucked up in bed by 11pm and then back in the hotel lobby the next day to watch his McLaren team-mates claim the F1 constructors’ title at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
