Federico Cola joked that he had found his "true love" after the animal wrapped itself around his leg.
A video of the incident shows Federico enjoying a dip in the Indian Ocean when something suddenly pulls at his leg forcing him to topple over into the water.
A fourth joked: "I’m not sure if this post came to me through my hot guy algorithm or my octopus lover algorithm.
The octopus can then be seen wrapped around his leg before he grabs it and holds it in his arms.
