A cruel and callous mum starved her own daughter to death out of hatred for the girl's father. Sandrine Pissarra refused to feed daughter Amandine, locking the 13-year-old in a windowless storage room for weeks in a decade of appalling treatment, a court in France heard. The youngster died in August 2020 of extreme malnutrition, weighing a shocking 62lb and suffering from septicaemia.
A harrowing medical report detailed how skeletal Amandine had been covered in infected wounds, with her face swollen, hair pulled out and several teeth had been lost. Mum of eight Pissarra, 54, admitted her horrifying crimes in court, reportedly confessing, "I am a monstrous mother".
When invited to speak, Pissarra told the court "I want to apologise to my children, that's all", adding, "I have nothing to add". Prosecutors in the southern city of Montpellier are now calling for her to be handed a life sentence after she admitted torture and barbarity against Amandine.
Jean-Marie Beney, prosecuting the case, told the court she should serve a minimum of 20 years in jail. He went on to disclose horrifying details of Pissarra's torture, including assaults on Amandine with brooms, hair pulling, insults and punches and kicks. Pissarra, a nail salon manager who has been in custody since May 2021, was described as a "domestic tyrant" and "dictator of the home", as well as Amandine's "executioner".
On the day of Amandine's death, it was heard she had tried to swallow a piece of sugar with some stewed fruit and a protein drink before throwing it up. She stopped breathing shortly after. Pissarra, from the village of Montblanc, was questioned the following day, brazenly claiming her daughter had been suffering from an eating disorder - despite the diagnosis having no backing from any medical professional.
