RAMPANT cocaine use might seem like a young person problem but it has now become popular in older generations too. In Australia, many 30-somethings are relying on the drug to get them through everyday tasks such as work, dating, and school events. Writing for the Daily Mail, columnist Jana Hocking recounted her recent experiences with people her own age who are still regularly using the substance.
She described the avid party goers, some aged over 40, as the "Peter Pans of Sydney.". Jana recalled how some of the woman she knows forked out £300 for bags of cocaine on one night out. The unnamed acquaintances shared their anxiety and regret over the partying in a group chat.
She explained how one woman, a real estate agent, confessed her reliance on the drug at a recent Christmas event. Jana also commented on the "alarming" number of women using cocaine as a weight loss measure in place of the pricier Ozempic. While illegal, cocaine is often easier to get your hands on and has similar appetite-suppressing side effects, according to one of the columnist's friends.
However, as Jana points out, the drug can also wreak havoc on your body, creating a hard to break dependency. She recalled how one friend described the addiction as "wanting to look my best but I ended up feeling my worst.". Other friends, who she had once regarded as "carefree," "glamourous," and "unstoppable" have also fallen victim to the drug.
