The actor, 48, has dropped almost 300lbs during his weight loss journey after weighing an estimated 550lbs at his heaviest back in 2002. However the star confessed to MailOnline that his dramatic weight loss didn't bring him happiness as he explained 'I'm not really a fan of people that are not clinically obese using these drugs to just get like super thin.'.

While he acknowledged Ozempic is great for those who are obese, he stated it is 'irresponsible' for people of Hollywood to use the drug to shed a small amount of weight. Oprah Winfrey famously admitted to using the drug back in 2023 when she used it to shed nearly 50 pounds after decades of dieting. The admission came as a shock to fans as Oprah had previously denied using meds to slim down and even went as far as to slam the method as an 'easy way out.'.

He began: 'Listen, when I was a kid. I dreamed of them finding a weight loss drug that would solve me. These drugs that are out now, they didn't even exist when I lost weight. 'The celebrity aspect is really tricky. First of all, I think for anyone who's morbidly obese, any tool that assists them in losing weight is super useful. 'If you're gonna get surgery, if you're gonna take Ozempic, and you have a massive amount of weight to lose, then I'm happy for anything that assists a person in doing that.'.

Yet Ethan argued that for people who aren't clinically obese, these drugs are just another form of fad diet. 'I did many fad diets where you lose weight incredibly rapidly and you're losing a lot of lean tissue. 'I'm not really a fan of people that are not clinically obese using these drugs to just get like super thin.'. Using his wife and her friends as an example, he continued: 'You know my wife and her friends even to this day are always going on diets to lose 5lbs to 10lbs.

'I think that these drugs for people like that will just accelerate that and make it so much easier to do.

'But every time they lose weight they'll be losing lean tissue also, which they then won't be replacing when they gain the weight back. So in fact their body fat percentage will be slowly sneaking up. 'That is my fear with those drugs, not for morbidly obese people, not for obese people, but for people who want to lose 5lbs to 10lbs and are using these interventions to make it easy to lose it and then jumping off the interventions and gaining the weight back.

'I think it's irresponsible for people in Hollywood to be doing that.'. Other celebrities rumoured to have taken the drug include singer Christina Aguilera who sparked speculation in May after she appeared to have dramatically slimmed down while performing in Mexico. Kim Petras was also subject to Ozempic rumours after debuting a new look last summer as fans described the singer as 'unrecognisable' and suggested she may have tried a weight loss drug.

Meanwhile Kelly Clarkson finally admitted last May that she had used a weight loss drug to slim down after previously insisting her dramatic transformation was the result of 'walking' more and cutting back on carbs. Yet while Hollywood stars are promoting the drug, Ethan also opened up about how actually losing the weight didn't make him happy and even now at his goal weight of 260lbs he still has to work to control his food compulsions and behaviours.
