Police responded to calls after a member of the public saw the body near Atlas Mill Road, in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, shortly after 9am this morning.
"Emergency services were called to the canal near Atlas Mill Road at just after 9am this morning by a caller reporting seeing a body in water there.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: "Police are appealing for information after a woman’s body was found in water in Brighouse.
"Police, ambulance and fire services attended and located the body of an adult woman.
