Netflix viewers have rushed to watch a new drama about a teenager who gets swept up in a violent football hooligan group. Earlier this month the five-part Polish series The Hooligan was released on the streaming service. As teased by Netflix, it follows teenager Kuba (Grzegorz Palkowski) as he gets involved in the rivalry between two local Polish football clubs, Gladius and Kosynierzy. After facing a childhood with an absent father who was in prison, Kuba sees the leader of the Gladius fan club as a father figure and is then convinced to get involved in dodgy dealings and make some quick cash despite his mother’s warnings.

However, what begins as a thrill from getting into fights with rival football fans ‘quickly spirals out of control when his new girlfriend falls into financial trouble’. ‘Desperate to help her, they hatch a risky plan to operate behind the group’s back, plunging them both deeper into a dangerous world with no easy way out,’ the synopsis teases. Up Next. After storming into the Top 10 most-watched TV shows in the UK, viewers have shared their thoughts on the series. ‘From the very first episode, you are captivated not only by the incredible cinematography, but also by the gripping story that keeps you in suspense until the very last minute. The plot is full of unexpected twists and turns. The excellent cast, great script and amazing execution make this Polish series a must-see,’ Lilla posted on IMDB.

‘A story that captures your attention and involves you. A fanaticism that is difficult to understand for those who are not part of this world but is worth watching…even for those who do not like football or are not fans,’ user nastanasta-92732 shared. ‘This isn’t just a show about football hooliganism; it’s a story about identity, belonging, and the choices that define us. The series doesn’t glorify or romanticise hooligan culture; instead, it presents it in all its complexity, showing both the camaraderie and the destructive consequences that come with it. Give it a chance…’ iMaas added.

Meanwhile, some also labelled it ‘suspenseful’ and ‘thought-provoking’, but others weren’t quite convinced, calling the series ‘chaotic’ and ‘disappointing’. Despite this many fans are already begging for a second season. What I Own: I quit London at 48 and bought my first home in Sussex for £325,000. I bought a house with my partner — but when we broke up, he refused to sell. I build 20ft tiny homes for homeless people (and they only cost £12,000).

London's cheapest place to rent revealed — but it might not be for long. Londoners are flocking to this ‘bustling’ neighbourhood 10 miles from the centre. The Hooligan is streaming on Netflix.
