Netflix is now home to an under-the-radar K-drama that fans agree is a five-star masterpiece. This supernatural thriller is equal parts gripping and emotional and could be the perfect alternative for international fans who have been hooked on Squid Game. South Korea has become one of the leaders in acclaimed TV dramas with unique concepts, stunning drama and lovable characters, many of which have already become hits on the streaming platform.
Now, with a few months still to wait through for the third and final season of Netflix’s brutal tournament, why not take a less bloodthirsty journey to the afterlife with Missing: The Other Side. This beloved series, which has aired for two seasons so far, follows sweet-talking con man Kim Wook (played by Go Soo) who mistakenly ends up in the mysterious Duon Village. In this invisible hamlet, he discovers he can see the departed souls of people whose bodies were never found and begins to work with his ghostly new neighbours to unearth the secrets of their deaths.
The show already has thousands of obsessed fans, and its cult following is only set to grow now it’s available on Netflix from this Saturday (1st February). One five-star Google review raved: “I have never watched a drama where there is no romance and agony, but this one touched me so hard that I finished 12 episodes within 2 days. I enjoyed it so much. I never skipped and every story touched me.
“If you are just skipping on this gem, you are missing a lot, my friends. This has to be one of the most unique storylines and I bet you will be hooked. “Watch this with your family or alone but you will feel the warmth, chill, sadness, tears and every emotion possible.”. Another fan gushed: “This is such a good drama yet underrated. The story is unique. I love how they came up with that kind of idea. The casting of characters are great, too. Go Soo is really a good actor.".
They went on to call out other supporting cast members, such as the dishy Song Geon-hee and ‘underrated’ Song Ha-jun, who they claim is ‘award-worthy’ in Missing: The Other Side. Sky is giving away a free Netflix subscription with its new TV bundles, including the £15 Essential TV plan. Sky Stream lets members watch live and on-demand TV content without a satellite dish or aerial and includes hit shows like The Day of the Jackal and the second season of Squid Game.
Someone else exclaimed: “WAaaahhh!! Still can't move on!! The drama was so beautiful. It is not your average thriller detective story that mostly focuses only on catching the killer. “It is more than that. It definitely goes beyond my expectations and it made me crave for more stories like this.”. “Brilliant, absolutely brilliant,” another K-drama enthusiast wrote. “I thought season one would be hard to beat but season two is even better. Go Soo is an amazing actor and drop dead gorgeous. He doesn’t drop the ball throughout.
“Great to see Huh Joon-ho in a kind role rather than a horrible politician in a historical drama. In fact all of the actors were so good. Look forward to a season three. The production was slick and the English subtitles superb. This is a definite masterpiece.”. And a final fan put it simply: “If you are into mystery and detective stuff but also want to be sad and emotional, this is the perfect show for you.”.
