Netflix is raising prices across a number of countries - sparking fears that UK subscribers could be next. The streaming giant is increasing costs in the US, Canada, Argentina and Portugal. Netflix charges £17.99 per month for its most expensive Premium tier, which allows you to watch on four devices, while the price of its Standard and Standard with Adverts plans costs £10.99 per month.

Netflix last increased prices in October 2023, but when asked if subscription costs were going up in the UK again, a spokesperson for Netflix told the BBC there was "nothing to share right now". Of the price rises in other countries, the spokesperson said: "We will occasionally ask our members to pay a little more so that we can re-invest to further improve Netflix.".

It comes after Netflix added 18.9 million subscribers in its fourth quarter, helped by popular shows including Squid Game 2. Netflix now has nearly 302 million customers globally. Netflix CEO, President & Director Gregory K Peters said: "We exceeded our ads revenue target in Q4, which was an exciting milestone to reach.

"We doubled our ads revenue last year, year over year, and expect to double it again, so that should give you a sense of the slope of monetization growth we’re on. There’s considerable work ahead of us, for sure, but we don’t see specific hurdles, other than doing the work.".

Netflix has made a string of several big changes over the last few years. For example, it axed its Basic plan - which was priced at £7.99 a month - for existing subscribers in 2024, with customers automatically moved to the cheaper Standard with Adverts package.
