Saturday Night Live star and comedian John Mulaney announced his new Netflix show on Wednesday - and made a swipe at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in the process. The stand-up comic is hosting Everybody's Live with John Mulaney from March on the streamer, inviting a series of stars to his variety talk show as it airs live over 12 consecutive weeks. The 42-year-old took to the stage at the streamer's Next on Netflix event on Wednesday afternoon to announce the upcoming show, jokingly comparing himself with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

"This is a really fun experiment. Not since Harry and Meghan has Netflix given more money to someone without a specific plan," he said. "Like Harry and Meghan, there's nothing but goodwill on my side. People are rooting for me left and right.". The Duke and Duchess released their first Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, back in December 2022. The show told the story of their romance and their exit from the Royal Family over the course of three episodes which divided viewers.

Meanwhile, Meghan is set to premiere her own lifestyle series on Netflix titled With Love, Meghan - with the show being released in March after its delayed due to the ongoing wildfires in Los Angeles. Towards the end of 2024, the couple were reported to have embarked on a 'professional split', as they undertook an increasing number of solo engagements and outings. However, earlier this week they reportedly reunited, with Meghan joining her husband at the Invictus Games in February.

Speaking about his own show, John added: "It was one of those shows that neither Netflix nor I really needed to do. I never wanted to host a talk show and they were getting out of the talk show game, so it was the perfect moment to do this.". He later added: "We will never be relevant, we will never be your source for news, we will always be reckless. Netflix will always provide us with data that we ignore.

"There is absolutely nothing new about what I'm doing. But by taking a lot of elements other people have already done and doing them out of order, it feels new and that's what's important. If we can be one-tenth as popular on Netflix as anything from South Korea, I will have the most successful talk show in world history.". Netflix also confirmed the release of its upcoming reality competition Building the Band, which features Liam Payne in a posthumous appearance following his tragic death last October.
