Back in March 2008, Cates was covering Manchester United ’s 4-0 win over Aston Villa, in which Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring with an instinctive flicked finish from the second phase of a corner.
Asked by FourFourTwo about the best goals she’d ever seen live, the daughter of Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish said: “One of the most memorable was years ago, I think it was against Aston Villa and it was pouring with rain.
Cates is set to be one of three new presenters on the BBC ’s iconic highlights show next season after Gary Lineker stands down.
