EPSOM FAITHFULL is fancied to make it two wins from her last three starts in the opening Gamble Responsibly At BetUK Handicap (11.58) at Lingfield Park today. Pat Phelan’s stable stalwart has an impressive record – the eight-year-old daughter of Coach House has won 11 of her 43 starts, a tally that includes eight wins from 24 attempts on the all-weather.

Two starts ago, Epsom Faithfull sprang a 100-1 shock when landing a course-and-distance handicap by one length from Achillea. And my selection ran another solid race to take second to Santorini Star, again over Lingfield’s mile and a quarter, at the beginning of last month.

The William Haggas-saddled winner is a progressive horse, but there are no such upwardly mobile runners in this event for four-year-olds and upwards and a 2lb nudge up the weights should not stop Paddy Bradley’s mount from giving another good account here.

At Chelmsford City, AUGUSTE LEMAIRE is the selection to build on a promising British debut by beating five opponents for the 6 horses Challenge At bet365 Handicap (8.30). The former Jim Bolger trainee came home strongly for a neck second to Mighty Nebula over course and distance 13 days before Christmas and should defy a 2lb rise on his second outing for Royston-based Clare Hobson.
