NINTENDO has reportedly sent lawyers to accessory maker Genki at CES 2025 after news about a full-size mockup of the upcoming console at the show leaked online. Last week, Genki sent the Switch 2 rumour mill into overdrive by showing off what was allegedly a life-sized replica of Nintendo’s next console at the event.
Now, according to French journalist Julien Tellouck who is at CES 2025, a Genki representative said Nintendo’s layers visited the accessory manufacturer’s booth at the trade show. Genki told him they had nothing to worry about as the company had signed no confidentiality agreements with Nintendo.
Last week, Genki also published a teaser video for its upcoming line of Switch 2 accessories. The trailer showed off a handheld console with a very similar look to the Nintendo Switch and a larger display. Although it’s hard to tell which parts are Genki accessories and which are the actual console, the device looked similar to previously leaked images of the upcoming handheld.
The teaser video also showed Joy-Con snapping onto the sides of the handheld instead of sliding, in line with rumours that the Switch 2’s controllers will use magnets. Following the leak, Nintendo commented for Japanese newspaper Sankei Shimbun that the images and mockups were “not official”.
Of course, the console maker did not elaborate on whether the trailer, mockup or images were accurate. In another statement to the Japanese edition of tech website CNET, Nintendo reiterated that the Genki mockup is “unofficial and was not provided to the company by us.”.
