Nintendo Switch 2 reveal date is this week claim sources as more games leak

The likes of Assassin’s Creed and Metal Gear Solid are rumoured to be coming to Nintendo Switch 2 this year, as multiple sources agree on the rumoured reveal date. After months of near constant rumours, and increasingly detailed leaks, it sounds like Nintendo is finally getting ready to formally unveil its next generation, Switch 2 console.
We always knew such a reveal would happen within the first few months of 2025 (Nintendo said as much), but only yesterday was an exact date proposed by insider Nate the Hate. Here is what we know so far. While an often reliable source, Nate the Hate is just one individual. But it seems his claim burst a dam, because a number of other sources have also come forward to confirm the date – Thursday, January 16.
Both VGC and Eurogamer claim that Nate the Hate’s suggestion of a hardware-centric reveal, followed by a software showcase later on, lines up with what they have heard about the company’s Switch 2 plans. The Verge, meanwhile, adds that Nintendo will announce the reveal the day before, on Wednesday, January 15. So, Nintendo will at least warn everyone in advance rather than drop the reveal out of nowhere.
And while they don’t have any insider knowledge themselves, former Nintendo public relations managers Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang are confident a Switch 2 reveal will happen this week, based on their experiences working for the company. Nobody so far has offered an exact time for when the reveal will air, so it seems we’ll have to wait until Nintendo itself provides it as part of the announcement.
