Noel Fielding, 51, has reportedly sparked fear in The Great British Bake Off tent after suddenly dropping out of one of his major TV roles. Last year, the comedian debuted his own Apple TV+ show, The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin. However, this month he dropped out of the second season due to unnamed health issues.

With Noel’s health meaning that the entire season of his new show had to be scrapped, Channel 4 execs have seemingly voiced concerns that they don’t know for sure whether he’ll be back for the next season of Bake Off. “Time is of the essence because bosses need a degree of certainty about who will be fronting Bake Off. So much has to be put in place long before the cameras start rolling and producers are already geared up, ready to go,” an insider told the Daily Mail.

The source added that there was “a lot riding” on Noel’s ability to return to the show, considering it’s Channel 4’s most popular and one of the most-watched in the UK. “All those involved understand this is a health matter, but contingencies have to be put in place,” they said.

A second season of Noel’s historical comedy was announced in July last year, soon after the first episodes aired to glowing reviews. Production for the second innings was already in place when Noel announced that he wouldn’t be returning after the Christmas break.

While Noel’s reason for leaving filming was health related, some colleagues are reportedly less than happy to see the second season axed with only weeks of filming left before it was complete. A source shared: "Noel has said that he can't film anymore and so there was no choice but to stop.".
