Noel Fielding has addressed rumours that he may not return to his beloved role in The Great British Bake Off. Insiders previously claimed that his future on the show was up in the air considering his recent health crisis, but a representative of Noel has now spoken up to share the star’s side of the story. At the weekend, it was reported that Channel 4 execs were unsure about whether Noel would return for the next season of Bake Off, and needed an answer soon.
“Time is of the essence because bosses need a degree of certainty about who will be fronting Bake Off. So much has to be put in place long before the cameras start rolling and producers are already geared up, ready to go,” an insider told the Daily Mail.
The source added that there was “a lot riding” on Noel’s ability to return to the show, considering it’s Channel 4’s most popular and one of the most-watched in the UK. “All those involved understand this is a health matter, but contingencies have to be put in place,” they said.
Now, though, Noel’s rep has spoken up to say that Noel stepping away from the show was never an option, and that both he and Channel 4 had no doubt he’d be back with co-host Alison Hammond soon. "There has been absolutely no discussion about Noel stepping down from Bake Off,” a spokesperson for the star told Deadline, "We have been in contact with Channel 4 and Love Productions throughout all the speculation and his ‘stepping down’ has never been part of that dialogue.”.
