A woman has suffered life-changing injuries after she was stabbed at the Accident and Emergency department where she was working. It's believed she is a nurse at Royal Oldham Hospital in Greater Manchester, where the attack happened. A 37-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder.

It is understood the woman was attacked with a bladed article or sharp instrument, which was not a knife. Police say they are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attack and there is no threat to the wider public. The woman in her 50s is being treated for serious injuries at the same hospital.

Detective Sergeant Craig Roters from Greater Manchester Police's Oldham district said: "This is a serious incident which has left a woman in a critical condition.
