Oldham hospital issues heartbreaking statement after nurse 'stabbed in A&E ward'

The NHS hospital where a nurse was attacked on Saturday has issued a statement. The female member of staff at Royal Oldham Hospital is in a critical condition with what are believed to be "life changing" injuries following the attack at around 11.30pm. A man, 37, was arrested at the scene and is being held on suspicion of attempted murder.
Heather Caudle, chief nursing officer at Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the Royal Oldham Hospital, said staff had been left "incredibly shocked" by what happened. She said: "We are incredibly shocked and saddened by last night’s incident and our focus is on supporting the colleague involved and their family.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers were called to Rochdale Road in Oldham at 11.30pm on Saturday following reports of a stabbing. The force said a woman in her 50s remains in hospital with what are believed to be "life changing" injuries. GMP confirmed a 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody. The force added that it is not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Detective Sergeant Craig Roters from GMP's Oldham district said: "This is a serious incident which has left a woman in a critical condition. Our thoughts are with her family and colleagues, and we will continue to support them throughout this investigation.
