Manchester United have been tipped to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League by stats analysts Opta. United have endured an awful season and fell to a dismal defeat at Wolves on Boxing Day. Ruben Amorim has struggled to turn things around since replacing Erik ten Hag as manager, with his side now 14th in the top-flight.

They are only eight points clear of the relegation zone, with a visit from top four-chasing Newcastle coming on Monday. Amorim has found it tough going at Old Trafford, winning just two Premier League games. He has also seen his side fall to four defeats and was even questioned about the chances of his side being pulled into the relegation battle on Thursday. While on the face of it those questions seem ridiculous for a club like United, a deeper analysis shows the Red Devils have reason to worry.

According to a new supercomputer from Opta, United are most likely to finish in the bottom half of the table. The stats company simulated 10,000 seasons to see where United finished most often. Following those simulations, the supercomputer has predicted United's most likely placing is 12th, with a 13.7 percent chance. To add to their concern, their second most likely finish is in 13th place, with that being a 13.3 percent chance.

Even the third most likely finish would be in the bottom half, with United having a 13.1 percent of finishing 11th. Their chance of finishing 10th is just 11.2 percent, while ninth is a 9.6 percent possibility. HAVE YOUR SAY! Where will Manchester United finish this season? Comment below.
