There are quite literally thousands of pubs in London, but none more famous than The Devonshire in Soho. The gastropub, known for having ‘the best Guinness in town’ according to customers, has won numerous accolades and become the talk of the city, with foodies desperate to get a table. And if the business’ latest award is anything to go by, it’s not very difficult to see why the place is so popular.

Despite having become a celebrity hangout, with everyone from Ed Sheeran to Margot Robbie and Nigella Lawson dining there, The Devonshire isn’t as expensive as you might think. In fact its £29 set menu was just crowned the best value set menu in the whole of the UK, being hailed the ‘bargain of the year’. The deal features three courses, including a prawn and langoustine cocktail to start, skirt steak, chips and bearnaise sauce for the main event, and sticky toffee pudding to finish.

Those willing to forgo a starter or the pudding can also enjoy two courses for £25 at the restaurant. This is a particularly good deal when you consider that other steak dishes on the menu (fillet or ribeye) cost between £36 and £39 for one course. For the set menu, there’s also a 12.5% service charge added to the bill, although the team stress that this is ‘optional’, but all of it goes to the ‘amazing staff’ if it is paid.

And the good news is, they don’t plan on raising the prices any time soon, as The Devonshire co-founder and pub landlord, Oisín Rogers claimed they want to remain ‘accessible’. He told Metro: ‘We are overjoyed to be included in The Good Food Guide and to win this prestigious award for Best Value Set Menu. It was always our aim to create a pub that was open, inclusive and accessible to all combining the best possible produce and cooking with great value and deliciousness.

‘We plan to keep our set menu at £29 for three courses and we would like to thank our loyal customers for their massive participation in it which helps us to continue to deliver it.’. It likely won’t surprise many that the restaurant is winning awards, as it’s got rave reviews online. On Google, Christopher Thomas gave five stars, saying it’s ‘truly a culinary experience that must be had’ and claiming the ‘food and service were outstanding’ during his visit.

Similarly, Jacqueline Rencsik said: ‘Surpassed my expectations, everything was divine. The staff were lovely and we felt really looked after, the Guinness was Guinnessing, and the food was flawless.’. And Anya Pramayudyani proclaimed: ‘Best pint of Guinness in London and delicious food – always busy and super packed but it’s good for a couple of pints to start the evening, or a special occasion dinner.’.

Over on Instagram the sentiments are similar, with @polkadotpassport reviewing her visit, saying the £29 set menu is ‘incredible value given the quality and quantity of food that was included’. She added: ‘This one really is worth the hype. The vibes, the food, the Guinness – everything was just immaculate.’. Several other London restaurants scooped big prizes on the night, including The Dover in Mayfair, which was named the most beautiful restaurant of the year.

Outside of London, Edinburgh was found to be the UK’s dining destination of the year, with family-run Timberyard and Montrose winning the drinks list of the year award. But it was Osip in Somerset that was crowned the overall restaurant of the year. The farm-to-table spot is located in a former 300 year old country inn and the menu there ‘evolves’ daily. The food is said to be an ‘expression of the Somerset landscape’ and uses produce grown by the team on their nearby farm.

Customers can try the Osip Tasting Menu for £125 per person, which has featured dishes such as a beetroot taco, and smoked eel served with preserved cucumber and winter herbs. There’s also a vegetarian version, which costs the same price, as well as a £95 lunch menu. Do you have a story to share?. Get in touch by emailing MetroLifestyleTeam@Metro.co.uk.
