Pep Guardiola’s wife wanted the manager to take charge of two Premier League rivals instead of Manchester City before their reported split. Guardiola has been faced with the headache of turning around City’s crisis of poor form for much of the 2024/25 season. But it appears the 53-year-old has also been dealing with issues off the field as reports in Spain claim he has split from Cristina Serra, the mother of his three children.

They are said to still be on good terms despite their split, having been seen going to the theatre with one of their daughters during the Christmas period. Prior to their reported separation, the Sunday Mirror revealed that Cristina had returned to their Barcelona home in 2019, meaning they had mainly lived apart as she moved between Spain and the UK.

Serra had once reportedly made it clear that living in Manchester wasn’t her preference. In late 2015, Guardiola announced his decision to leave Bayern Munich at the end of the 2015/16 season, with the Catalan tactician eyeing a new challenge in England.

At the time, it was still unclear which club he would join out of City, Manchester United, Chelsea, or Arsenal. But, as The Independent reported in 2015, Serra preferred one of the two London clubs. The report claimed she was drawn by the allure of living in one of the world’s greatest cities, whether that be in glamorous west London or trendy north London. Chelsea, at the time, was still owned by Roman Abramovich and had yet to appoint Antonio Conte, who won them their most recent league title in 2016/2017.
