Police are on the hunt for a gang of thieves after £2 million was reportedly raided from homes which feature in the TV show Ted Lasso. Locals living in Richmond Green, southwest London, say they were targeted after the homes appeared in the hit comedy-drama starring Jason Sudeikis.

A safe containing jewellery was stolen from an eight-bedroom home on November 2, prompting the tenants to move out, according to neighbours. Singer Richard Ashcroft, who formed the alternative rock band The Verve, reportedly had around £1 million of valuables stolen from his £8million home in December.

One of his neighbours said they called 999 after hearing the alarm go off in Mr Ashcroft’s home, but the culprits had fled by the time police arrived. “But now the gang are free to find their next target. We’re all now living in fear.”. Much of Ted Lasso was filmed in Richmond, including Richmond Theatre, Richmond Hill, Richmond Green and The Prince’s Head Pub.

Met Police believe the break-ins were carried out by a gang of professional burglars from South America, according to The Sun. One local believes the gang watched the Apple TV series at some point and realised the “rich pickings” to be had in the area.

It is understood four suspects were involved in the burglaries, wearing caps, gloves and wielding crowbars, while two others kept watch. Detective Chief Inspector Dan Sullivan said: “We are aware of a number of burglaries in the Richmond Green area, and are taking proactive steps to deter offenders and reassure residents. Enquiries are ongoing.
