Police investigate alleged racist remark aimed at player during Burnley vs Watford

A Burnley fan was questioned by police for allegedly making a racist remark at a Watford player at Turf Moor on Saturday. The Hornets keeper Daniel Bachmann was believed to have heard the discriminatory words directed at a team-mate and reported it to the match officials. Burnley reacted quickly, spotted the offender who was promptly removed from the stand and interviewed by police.
The club have a zero policy in these matters issuing a statement stating: “Anyone found guilty will result in a stadium ban and potential criminal charge.”. Burnley claimed all three points as they continued their promotion quest, with captain Josh Brownhill inspiring Scott Parker's men.
They might have conceded a rare goal – just the ninth of the campaign – but it didn’t matter in the end thanks to Brownhill continuing his magic at the other end of the pitch as they made it nine matches unbeaten. A stupendous 62nd minute finish was the midfielder’s eighth league goal of the season making him the club’s leading scorer.
Delighted Clarets boss Scott Parker beamed: “He’s massively important for us. He’s one player with a real goal threat. He’s got a nous about him, an understanding of the game. Our second goal was high on technical detail. I’ve got nothing but admiration for this group.”.
It had been the perfect start for Parker’s side – a first Turf Moor goal for Jaidon Anthony – a constant source of danger with his forceful runs down the right flank. Brownhill was the ninth minute creator, his cross from the left falling to Anthony whose crisp 12 yard finish was too good for Daniel Bachmann, the keeper unable to react quick enough to the shot which spun off the sodden turf. It was the Bournemouth loanee’s third league goal of the campaign but his first in front of the home fans.
