Prince Louis was seen sporting smart trousers during this morning's Christmas Day walkabout, breaking away from the traditional shorts usually worn by Royal youngsters. The six year old was spotted alongside his mother, Princess Kate, and his older siblings, Prince George, 11, and Princess Charlotte, nine. The children charmingly waved to members of the public who braved the cold morning to greet them.
Royal tradition typically dictates that boys under seven must wear shorts for public engagements. However, it seems his parents are adopting a more relaxed approach to protocol, as Louis, who turned six in April, also wore trousers last Christmas. Senior members of the Royal Family gathered at Sandringham House, King Charles' country estate in Norfolk. He took over the residence when the late Queen Elizabeth II passed away in September 2022 and has continued her long-standing Christmas traditions.
The annual celebration is one of the few times during the year when the royals gather to spend time together as a family. It is said that the King, 76, has decided to expand the guest list this year following both his and the Princess of Wales's battles with cancer, reports the Express.
It is believed the Royal Family have already exchanged their gifts on Christmas Eve, honouring their German heritage. Their day will continue with a formal black-tie dinner this afternoon, where they will fully immerse themselves in the festivities. According to Hello, it's common for young male royals to start sporting suits from the age of seven, and they are then allowed to wear formal trousers at public events.
