Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have been seen at the royals' annual Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace - despite dad Prince Andrew dramatically pulling out of the event. It emerged yesterday that the Duke of York had decided to skip the traditional bash as he continues to be dogged by his links to an alleged Chinese spy. Andrew decided not to attend the gathering at Buckingham Palace today after speaking to his ex-wife and close friend Sarah, Duchess of York, according to a source. The move is another embarrassing moment for the King’s brother, who has already withdrawn from joining senior royals at Sandringham for the festive period.

But despite Andrew's non-attendance his daughters still attended the bash today and were seen arriving at the palace, both smiling. Beatrice sat in the passenger seat while husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi drove them to the party, while Eugenie was also seen in a car with her husband Jack Brooksbank.

Other arrivals at the party have included Queen Camilla, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, Edward and Sophie, the Duke of Kent and his family and Prince and Princess Michael of Kent. However, missing from the event were the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children. A royal source said William and Kate are already in Norfolk, as had been planned, and are looking forward to spending time with the rest of the royal family at Sandringham over Christmas.
