Retired nurse, 84, accused of murdering 84-year-old wife as 'devastated' family issue statement A family have said they are 'devastated' after an 84-year-old man appeared in court accused of murdering his wife.
Police said Margaret Maude Hanson, also 84, was pronounced dead at a property in the Scottish Borders town of Galashiels on Monday December 9.
A Police Scotland spokesperson added:"We received a report of the death of an 84-year-old woman at a property on Wood Street, Galashiels, around 3.05am on Monday, 9 December, 2024.
Police Scotland Detective Inspector Debbie Duncan said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Margaret who are being supported by specialist officers.
Her husband, John Hanson, who is a retired nurse, appeared in private at Selkirk sheriff court last Tuesday charged with her murder.
