River search called off three weeks after sisters disappeared

The mystery of two sisters who vanished in Scotland appears no closer to being solved after a search of the river where they were last spotted was called off. It’s been three weeks since Eliza and Henrietta Huszti, 32, were last seen in Aberdeen in the early hours of Tuesday, January 7.

CCTV captured them walking down Market Street to the Victoria Bridge spanning the River Dee near the harbour around 2.12am. They then turned right down a footpath toward Aberdeen Boat Club and haven’t been seen since. While police will continue scouring the coast to the north and south, a search of the river and harbour have been called off.

Superintendent David Howieson said: ‘Extensive and detailed searches have been carried out of the River Dee and the harbour area, using local and national specialist police resources, including the dive and marine unit, police dogs and air support. ‘These searches have now concluded at this time but inquiries will be ongoing to trace Eliza and Henrietta.

‘Coastal areas, both north and south of Aberdeen city, will continue to be searched and any further information received by police will be acted upon.’. He added: ‘The investigation continues to trace Eliza and Henrietta. Our thoughts are very much with their family at what is a very difficult time.’.
The Huszti sisters, part of a triplet with their brother Jozsef, had been spotted on the bridge the day before they disappeared, at 2.50pm. CCTV showed the pair spending five minutes there without engaging with anyone else before they returned to their rented flat, where they stayed until that night.
