The bodies of at least 28 people have been recovered after an American Airlines plane and a military helicopter collided near a busy US airport. Ronald Reagan National Airport halted all takeoffs and landings following the horror collision, which happened at around 9pm on Wednesday local time. It is the first fatal crash involving a US commercial airline in 15 years, and nobody is expected to have survived the heartbreaking collision.
A complex search and rescue operation is now underway as it is thought 64 passengers were onboard both aircraft in total. The American Airlines plane had attempted to land after a journey from Wichita, Kansas. The airliner - operated by a American Airlines' subsidiary PSA Airlines - collided with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter, an Army chopper said to have been on a training flight.
