Rory McIlroy has revealed he has been honing in on his stats to see exactly what he needs to work on to finally win the Masters at Augusta National this April. The green jacket is the one major honour missing for McIlroy, having been on the hunt to complete the career Grand Slam ever since winning The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool in 2014. The Northern Irishman has come close at Augusta in the past, but has never been able to become champion.

His closest call came back in 2011, where McIlroy held a four-shot lead heading into the final round, before carding an eight-over-par 80 on Sunday to tumble down the leaderboard. As time goes on, the pressure continues to mount on PGA Tour star whilst competing at the opening major of the year. In preparation for the 2025 event though, McIlroy is making sure he is better prepared than ever, having looked at where he needs to improve around Augusta to finally get over the line.

"All of my practice, all of my prep, even the tournaments that I'm playing, it's all geared towards being ready for those four events," McIlroy told BBC Sport of the majors. "Augusta is Augusta. I've gone through my stats and there are a couple of things that were pointed out to me that I could definitely get better at - certain little shots around the greens.".

Remarkably, McIlroy has not won a major since 2014, having previously won four in the space of four seasons at the beginning of the 2010s. He has had his fair share of near-misses since, no more so than at last year's US Open, losing to Bryson DeChambeau despite leading with just four holes left to play.
