From mega-money negotiations to epic major encounters, it was yet another whirlwind year in men's professional golf. And as has been the case in recent years, 2025 is expected to be no different. The 2024 season was once again dominated by the PGA Tour and LIV Golf. On the course, Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy played out a US Open battle for the ages last June, with the former pipping the latter in a dramatic finish.

Away from the action focus once again turned to the negotiation table, with the PGA Tour continuing their talks with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF) over a peace deal with LIV. More of the same is expected on and off the course heading into 2025, and the Mirror Sport team have given their predictions for the year ahead.

I feel like I (and many others) say this every year, but 2025 will finally be the season where Rory McIlroy ends his wait for a fifth major title. In 2024 he came as close as he ever has to finally becoming a major champion again, before having his heartbroken by Bryson DeChambeau at the US Open.

He is of course waiting on the illusive Masters title to complete his career Grand Slam, and whilst the green jacket will be at the top of wish list, McIlroy will be chomping at the bit to win any of the four major crowns to end his 11-year wait. His best chance? the PGA Championship.

The second major of the year heads to Quail Hollow in May, a course McIlroy has enjoyed plenty of success at in the past, having won four Wells Fargo Championships around the North Carolina track throughout his career. The month of all four of those wins you ask? May of course.
