Ruben Amorim makes Man Utd transfer priority clear after star deemed not good enough

Ruben Amorim is keen to bring in a new goalkeeper to compete with Andre Onana at Manchester United. The goalkeeper is into his second season at Old Trafford and is the clear No 1, despite making some high profile errors. The new manager now wants a shotstopper who can push the Cameroonian with Altay Bayindir not regarded as credible competition.
The Turk joined United from Fenerbahce for £4.3million in 2023, but has made only four appearances for the club, all of which have come in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. He recently shipped four in the loss at Tottenham, where he conceded direct from a corner.
Bayindir would have to leave this month if United were to sign an immediate replacement, reports the MEN. Tom Heaton turns 39 in April and is out of contract in the summer. Funds are at a premium in Manchester this month so Amorim, if he can identify a target, will need to be shrewd with his business.
Onana has been vocal in shutting down his critics, but the numbers to not make for pleasant reading for the former Inter Milan goalkeeper, who was signed to replace David de Gea. However the jury is still out on whether the club have upgraded. Onana has conceded 26 goals in 19 Premier League games this term and has recently made some glaring errors which cost his side against Nottingham Forest and Wolves. He too was beaten direct from a corner by Matheus Cunha on Boxing Day.
