Ruben Amorim has been told Manchester United must sell 10 players if they are to return to challenging at the top. United are languishing in 14th place in the Premier League under their new boss and look some way off contending for honours nearer the top of the table. A complete overhaul appears to be required despite making significant signings in the summer, albeit before Amorim made his arrival to have input in recruitment.

Former Chelsea and Blackburn striker Chris Sutton believes players such as Matthijs de Ligt and Joshua Zirkzee should be binned despite only arriving at the start of the season. Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, the veteran pundit said of the Dutch defender that 'there is an upgrade to be made there'.

Sutton's assessment on Zirkzee was also not particularly complimentary. The ex-Celtic ace described the Netherlands international as a 'development player' and that 'Manchester United don't need development players at this particular time'. Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir, defenders Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans and Tyrell Malacia, midfield veterans Casemiro and Christian Eriksen, and forwards Antony and Marcus Rashford are all on Sutton's chopping block. Lindelof, Evans and Eriksen are all set to see their contracts expire at the end of the season.

That does mean United have been told to retain the services of Harry Maguire, who is also set to enter the final six months of his deal in the coming days. "I'm keeping Harry Maguire because I think he's a good character and United need more of those in the dressing room," wrote Sutton.
