The suspect in the deadly ‘terrorist attack’ on New Orleans that happened a few hours after New Year’s Eve has now been identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar. The FBI said the man accused of mowing through the crowd in the French Quarter was aged 42 and was a US citizen from Texas, who was an Army veteran.
An ISIS flag was found in the rented truck he unleashed on revellers ringing in 2025. Multiple weapons and suspected bombs were also discovered at the scene. Authorities believe he is not the ‘sole perpetrator’ in the crash and appealed for the public’s help, particularly those who were in contact with Jabbar in the last 72 hours.
The attacker was killed after a shootout with police, in which two officers were injured. Are you in New Orleans? Get in touch by emailing gergana.krasteva@metro.co.uk.
