Stand-up comedian and diehard Notre Dame fan Shane Gillis has revealed that the Fighting Irish's shock loss to Northern Illinois caused his dad, Phil Gillis, to have a heart attack. Gillis revealed the cause of his dad's health problem hours before the start of the national championship game against Ohio State as a guest on The Pat McAfee Show.

Notre Dame has rattled off 13 straight wins after losing to the Huskies in Week 2 to reach the national title game. 'After Northern Illinois, I had lost faith, admittedly,' Gillis said of his favorite team. 'My dad had a heat attack from that.'. 'He's back, he's worked his way back to health! He's here, he made it all the way back to Atlanta ... [Notre Dame coach] Marcus [Freeman] revived him.'.

McAfee looked off-camera at someone to congratulate them with his show taking place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Gillis has revealed that the Fighting Irish's loss to NIU caused his dad to have a heart attack. Gillis revealed the cause of his dad's health problem hours before the national title game.
