Sinead O'Connor laid out her heartbreaking wishes for her children in her will. The world was left stunned on July 26, 2023, when it was announced that the legendary musician had died aged 56. The singer was found "unresponsive" at her home in London. It was later ruled that her cause of death was chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and asthma, with her death certificate stating "exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low grade lower respiratory tract infection.".

But ten years prior to her death, Sinead signed her will, with her former husband John Reynolds signing as the executor. In her will, Sinead made it very clear how she wanted her children to process her death when the event happened. Sinead stated in her will, which she wrote and signed before converting to Islam: "My children can dispense my ashes as they see fit." She later went on to write how she wanted her children, who were left a sum of £1.7million to re-release any of her music following her death.

"I direct that after my death, and at the discretion of any of my children who are then over 18, my albums are to be released so as to 'milk it for what it's worth," she added. Sinead left the large sum to her four children, Jake, Brigidine, Yeshua and Shane. However, Shane tragically died aged just 17 in January 2022.

Irish probate documents obtained by The Sun state that after paying her debts, funeral costs and legal fees, the amount was reduced to £1.4million. Sinead also wished to be buried in priests clothes, with a copy of the Hebrew bible and her album, Theology with her.
